Justin Lowenthal began the MD-PhD program at Johns Hopkins after graduating with the top honor awarded from Yale in 2011. After completing a prestigious fellowship in bioethics at the NIH and two years of medical training, he embarked on collaborative research modeling early cardiac development and genetic heart disease, combining stem cell differentiation, three-dimensional platforms, and developmental biology techniques. He has co-authored seven book chapters, ten scientific manuscripts, and ten manuscripts in bioethics and health policy; has presented at twenty meetings; served as an inaugural JCI scholar; and received an AHA Predoctoral Fellowship. Justin has demonstrated leadership and commitment to community at every level: among many endeavors, he works feverishly on health care affordability, equity, and justice through national leadership roles with the advocacy organization Doctors for America; has been a leader among medical and MD-PhD students; served the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic; and has mentored numerous students.
