Arel received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in computer security and focused on its application to voting systems and elections. His research sought to enable fairer, more transparent and secure elections by improving how elections are audited. Arel worked closely with government officials and leading academics in analyzing the security of today's voting systems, and proposing new techniques and procedures to improve the transparency of systems in use today. In his spare time Arel enjoys running marathons and playing the violin.
