Yuri Matsumoto entered a Ph.D. program in the MIT Biological Engineering (BE) Department in September 2006 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a minor in Biomedical Engineering from MIT. Throughout her graduate student life, Yuri has been dedicated in both academics and athletics. She has maintained a GPA of 4.9/5.0 and served as a teaching assistant of an undergraduate laboratory course. In her lab, she also mentors an undergraduate student as part of MIT’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. In her spare time, she trains and competes in road bicycle races at the national level. She demonstrated her leadership skill as a captain of the MIT cycling team between 2007 and 2009, and led the team to win the Division II Collegiate Road Nationals Championship title in May 2008 for the first time in MIT history. She has also been a core member of the MIT women’s team time trial squad which became Division II Collegiate Team Time Trial Champion in 2008 and 2011.
