Chengtao Li is a second-year PhD student at EECS, MIT, working with Stefanie Jegelka and Suvrit Sra. His research lies in general machine learning, with a focus on approximate inference and large-scale methods that tackle real-world problems. His recent research concerns practical subset selection methods that can be widely used in recommendation, summarization, and sensor placement. Before coming to MIT, he got his bachelor's degree from IIIS, Tsinghua Universyty. During his undergraduate he has interned at Microsoft Research Asia for one year developing new machine learning methods. This summer, he will spend another 3 months at Microsoft Research Cambridge to further broaden his view in the field. Besides research, he has worked as the director of China-Trip team in MIT-CHIEF that connects U.S. entrepreneurs to investors and government officials in China.
