Akash has worked with Profs Jaime Carbonell, Chris Dyer, and Carolyn Rose on research that spans multilingual natural language processing, multimodal machine learning, and educational technology. His research has been presented at top-tier venues such as EMNLP, ICML, AAAI, and ITS. His work on predicting student learning and structuring student collaboration in MOOCs is to be integrated into the EdX MOOC platform, where it will impact students around the world. As part of the DARPA LORELEI project, he leads efforts toward cross-lingual transfer models to extract information required for rescue/relief operations in disaster scenarios from multiple low-resource languages. In industry, Akash delivered a product recommendation service used by millions of Amazon customers, drastically improving revenues and reducing product returns. As a member of his undergraduate institution's entrepreneurship forum (E- FOREA) he helped form strategic alliances with India's National Entrepreneurship Network to help student startups find funding and mentors. He also tutored underprivileged students, some of whom are the first of their family to attend college.
