Nirmesh is a graduate student at MIT CSAIL and works on designing information systems for next generation data environments such as the cloud computing paradigm and high performance transactional web applications. Nirmesh's fascination with hard data management problems goes back to his undergraduate days at IIT Kanpur, where his research on query adaptive reference indexing was nominated for the best thesis in computer science award. He has also been involved in the development of large scale user-facing software as an intern at Google and Microsoft. Nirmesh has held several leadership positions in the past, serving as the cultural chair of the computer science department at IIT and as a Sun Microsystems campus ambassador. He is a past winner of the prestigious Aditya Birla scholarship, being the sole recipient from his class at IIT. In his spare time, Nirmesh likes playing badminton and strumming away on his guitar.
