Derrick is currently pursuing is Master's in Computer Science. His research focus is in Behavioral Data Mining. In addition to this work, he does research in Human Computer Interaction, where he is involved on a project called Kinectograph - an automatic body tracking camera to aid the filming of DIY tutorials. He is fascinated by Computer Science because of its ability to impact diverse areas on all scales, from campus to global. Derrick has had opportunity to work on a number of such projects including HelpMeOut (a mobile application allowing college campus students to quickly message their location out to nearby friends in an emergency with just one press of a button), MAD: Mobile Assistance for Disaster (a mobile application aimed at providing realtime disaster pertinent information, such as current CAP warnings and directions to nearby shelters and hospitals, to citizens of Taiwan during a disaster itself), and Urban Analytics (a data mining project aimed at helping City Development Planners make more informed decisions by providing better data analysis of community feedback). Derrick has done internships at Facebook, Academia Sinica, LinkedIn, and Cisco.
