Raised in the rural Midwest, Elijah attended the University of Minnesota, Morris, a public liberal arts college with an emphasis on affordable sustainability and the prairie environment, beginning in 2005. Elijah began his research career in 2007 during the summer after his undergraduate sophomore year, doing research with a professor in a project that continued through spring 2008. He then worked in an industry internship during summer 2008 before pursuing an independent study in computational linguistics during his senior year, which he presented at the premier international conference in the field. What is most impressive about Elijah’s research is that not only does he produce interesting technical innovations, but he is able to engage at a very deep conceptual level, bringing together research from multiple fields including educational psychology, linguistics, sociology, and computer science. Elijah has had an incredibly productive first year of research, resulting in 5 publications.
