Alexandre is working on high-resolution computational models of evolution. This work has the potential to bring methods from computer science to bear on significant problems in both linguistics and biology. He has developed a new course on practical machine learning in collaboration with other graduate students. He has also been an active participant in his department's recruitment process. For two years Alexandre was a CSGSA officer for the CS visit day. He has also taken on leadership roles with his current students in more informal ways. For example, Alexandre has organized several practice prelim sessions to support and prepare his fellow graduate students. Outside of academics, he swims competitively with Cal's master swimming team, where he also serves as the chair of the social committee.
