Jason is a Ph.D. candidate approaching his fifth year in the Computer Science program at UC Berkeley, where he focuses on Artificial Intelligence as an advisee of Professor Stuart Russell. His research interests are varied: he has coauthored publications in such diverse areas as bioinformatics, machine learning, and hierarchical planning (his dissertation topic). This summer, as an intern at Willow Garage (an open-source robotics company); Jason plans on applying his hierarchical planning research to real-world robotics problems. He hopes that this work will ultimately play a role in the creation of service robots capable of improving the lives of elderly and disabled persons, by assisting them with household tasks. In addition to his research, Jason also lead a small team of developers as cofounder of a startup company, which aspires to provide new technologies for analyzing trends in user-generated content on the web.
