The Siebel Scholars China delegation returned from an 11-day trip with new insights, ideas, and relationships. Highlights of the trip include:

  • Insights from executives at Innovation Works, Tsing Capital, Baidu, and IBM about business innovation, growth, successes, and challenges in the local market
  • A visit with host Tsinghua University to learn about the university’s innovative research, including a fourth generation nuclear reactor and collaboration with other top universities to design the next generation of internet protocols
  • Discussions with government officials, including the Ministry of Rail and the mayor of Hangzhou, about their priorities in the context of China’s 12th Five Year Plan
  • Cultural appreciation through exposure to modern Chinese art from Craig Yee ’03, a performance on West Lake in Hangzhou, and tours of historic Shanghai
  • In-depth conversations with young entrepreneurs, clean tech leaders, and foreign and budding journalists
