2010 - Jennifer Singelyn
Jennifer Singelyn’s myocardial matrix may save your life someday. Jennifer is creating a process to create a liquid form of material found in pig hearts. This material will gel at body temperature so that it can be injected into ailing human hearts to potentially promote cardiac function, regenerate tissue, and strengthen the cardiac wall.
Jennifer has had a long-standing curiosity about, and passion for, making things that people can use and that help the body heal. She derived her early inspiration from seminars and discussions about engineering, including a talk on the regeneration of bone tissue. Having exposure to these events was vital to Jennifer’s decision to study Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, and Industrial Design at Carnegie Mellon as an undergraduate.
Jennifer is active in her church and remains close to her family in New Jersey, despite her current geographic distance. Going forward, Jennifer hopes she can instill that same excitement in the next generation of potential scientists and engineers, regardless of whether she is in academia or industry.
