2007 - Alper Celen

Alper is passionate about building new companies and creating networks of entrepreneurial activities to support them.

A native of Turkey, Alper’s first start-up was a Boston-based mobile marketing  company, which he sold prior to business school.  Following his MBA and several years at McKinsey in Helsinki and Dubai, Alper and fellow McKinsey alumni recently started Commit Network.  Based in Dubai, Commit Network identifies opportunities in the Middle Eastern market; fundraises for, invests in, and jump-starts businesses to capitalize on those new opportunities; and then recruits qualified executives to lead these companies. Commit Network is currently raising funds for its first two companies in the fields of logistics and mobile value added services.

Alper’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurship extends beyond his hours at the office.  Alper has helped build entrepreneurship centers in Finland and Saudi Arabia with the help of his MIT network, and is on the Board of MIT’s Enterprise Forum in Istanbul and multiple high-tech startups.  His other new endeavor is fatherhood – his son just had his first birthday.

Alper has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia, in addition to his MBA from MIT.  Since his time at the University of Virginia, Alper has been salsa dancing and credits this hobby as instrumental in meeting his wife, a former student in one of the dance classes he taught.
