2006 - Luca Torre

Luca Torre’s passion for alleviating world poverty stems from his travels as a teenager.  Luca visited many developing countries, and in the process, became exposed to the social issues in those emerging markets.  Today, Luca raises funds for and advises on investments in microfinance, enabling millions of active micro-entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises worldwide access to financing to kick-start, maintain, and grow their businesses.

Luca’s expertise in the financial, strategic, and operational aspects of microfinance has led him to projects across the globe with The Boston Consulting Group, the International Finance Corporation, the Indian cooperative microfinance bank Annapurna, and Credit Suisse.  In 2009, Luca joined forces with a fellow former Credit Suisse colleague to form Treetops Capital, a fund management and advisory company that invests in microfinance institutions and other financial institutions that serve the micro, small, and medium business sector in emerging markets.  It has been a challenge starting an investment fund in the middle of the recession, but Luca is on the way to realizing his dream.  In 2010, Luca agreed to team up with the Spanish investment bank Ambers Capital to found Ambers Capital Microfinanzas and become an advisor to this new microfinance fund.

Luca still loves travel, and has added cycling, skiing, and mountaineering to his lists of interests.  He also admits to a recent and ongoing obsession with learning to bake bread – an obsession about which his French wife was skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised when she tasted his recent batch of baguettes.
