2004 - Mitchell Weiss

After three years as an investment banker, Mitch went to business school knowing that he wanted to work in public service.  He graduated with a position as Special Assistant to Boston Mayor Menino, a job he landed through Harvard’s Service Leadership Fellowship.  In that role, he advised the mayor on a range of projects that focused on areas of management and technology.  He was then presented with a rare opportunity to help an HBS professor build the Tobin Project, a non-profit virtual research center for over two hundred scholars that helps develop new ideas about the economy and democracy.

In January, Mitch returned to Boston City government as Mayor Menino’s Chief of Staff.  The Mayor has a dense agenda that includes transforming the South Boston waterfront into a center for innovation, improving education, and using technology to foster a closer connection between the city government and the citizens of Boston.  Mitch speaks passionately about the new ‘Innovation District’ in Boston designed to draw mobile, lifetech, and clean tech talent to the city.  Built into the plan is an innovative live/work component that is expected to nurture start-ups through their infancy and promote the city as a new hub for entrepreneurship.

Despite his hectic schedule, Mitch makes sure to spend time with his new wife, and sneak in an occasional run.
