2002 - Miriam Walker

Miriam designs online experiences for the healthcare system that have dramatically increased the efficiency and accuracy of patient care.

While working as a User Experience Consultant for Sapient, Miriam has developed software that supports the organ donation process for the United Kingdom’s National Health Service.  The introduction of this electronic data capture has significantly reduced the risk of miscommunication and transcription errors and simplified the organ donation process, allowing specialist nurses to quickly enter information about organs and donors before the organs become unusable.  When an organ becomes available, transplant teams are notified and can search a secure website to match the organ to patients in need.

Miriam has also designed an online ordering system for blood, providing an easy way for hospitals to place orders for blood products as needed.  She is passionate about applying her user experience expertise to the public sector, where she is able to witness the immediate impact of her work.

Miriam is originally from New Zealand, has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Auckland, and a Master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley in Computer Science.   She is actively training for a triathlon, enjoys hiking and visiting art galleries, and travels whenever she can.
